Das Deficiências curriculares às Olimpíadas Disciplinares no Ensino Secundário em Cabo Verde

Abstract

Starting from Albert Einstein's argument that imagination was more important than knowledge, we postulate that honest work should, by analogy, be more important than talent itself. Thus, we propose to study the origin and nature of the factors that condition the motivation and individual aptitudes of students (based on the dualism: contextual institutions versus individual qualities), to infer that, in fact, the teaching and learning of mathematics, beyond talent, has required significant extracurricular efforts, particularly in the context of education in developing countries. Within this framework, the practice of solving non-standardized mathematical problems of a higher difficulty level, through OM (Organizational Mathematics), is presented as one of the extracurricular activities that can help to overcome this situation. Therefore, through a qualitative methodology (descriptive and exploratory), based on the collection and systematization of available documentary information, complemented by our own experience, we argue for the extension of this extracurricular activity to all subjects, as a way to contribute to the improvement of secondary education.
