Resumen

O envelhecimento está associado a perda muscular gradativa, levando a deterioração da “qualidade muscular” e incapacidades. O Índice de Qualidade Muscular (IQM) é medido através da razão entre força muscular (FM) e massa muscular (MM). O teste de sentar e levantar (TSL) avalia a força de membros inferiores (MMII), e a Absortometria Radiológica de Dupla Energia identifica a MM. O objetivo do estudo foi identificar o IQM de MMII e sua associação com fatores físicos e cognitivos de idosos da comunidade.Trata-se de um estudo observacional e transversal. O IQM foi estratificado em dois grupos, os aspectos físicos foram avaliados através de: Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC); Sarc-F e Força de Preensão Manual (FPM), e os cognitivos através de: Mini-Exame do Estado Mental (MEEM); Trail Making Test (TMT) e Dupla Tarefa (DT). Todos os testes foram concluídos por 48 idosos (76±9 anos). Sarc-F (p=0,000) e FPM (p=0,001) apresentaram diferenças significativas quanto ao IQM, bem como MEEM (p=0,001), TMT-A (p=0,002) e DTcognitiva (p=0,014). Regressões lineares simples e multivariada foram utilizadas (p<0,2). Sarc-F (R2=0,271;β=0,520;p=0,000), FPM (R2=0,113;β=-0,335;p=0,020), MEEM (R2=0,097;β=-0.311;p=0.031), TMT-A (R2=0,083;β=0.289;p=0.046) e DTcognitiva (R2=0,368;β=0.606;p=0.000) foram associados ao IQM, e FPM (β=0,278;p=0,015), TMT-A (β=0.347;p=0.031) e DTcognitiva (β=0.494;p=0.000) foram confirmados pelo modelo ajustado (R2 ajustado=0,504). O IQM de MMII está associado à massa e força muscular, bem como ao desempenho cognitivo da população estudada. Além disso, a piora da força muscular geral e do desempenho em testes cognitivos pode ser explicada, significativamente, por uma pior qualidade muscular de membros inferiores de idosos da comunidade.
