New Distribution Record of the Southern Antpipit (Corythopis delalandi, Passeriformes: Rhynchocyclidae) in the Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba Region, Southeastern Brazil

The Rhynchocyclidae comprises 67 species in Brazil, among which Corythopis delalandi, commonly known as the Southern Antpipit. Despite its scientific interest due to its behavioral traits, the species still presents knowledge gaps regarding its distribution, particularly in under-sampled inland regions. This study reports the first documented record of C. delalandi for Monte Carmelo - Minas Gerais, observed in Parque da Matinha — an ecotonal area between the Cerrado and remnants of the Atlantic Forest. The record includes vocalizations and foraging behavior in the understory, supported by photographic documentation and georeferenced data. The species had not been previously recorded in local bird inventories or major citizen science platforms consulted. This new occurrence extends the known distribution of the species and highlights the importance of field surveys in overlooked areas. The findings reinforce the need to strengthen systematic surveys in underreported regions to fill gaps in avifaunal knowledge and to support conservation planning.
